Or just order a signed copy here: http://www.wordbrooklyn.com/signed-dagmara-dominczyk. I hope you all love it, and her, as much as I do.

*It may not be the best Corpus Libris we’ve ever done, but we’re giving ourselves an A for effort.

Today is a day of celebration — our birthday! And you all know what that means…WE NEED HELP EATING DELICIOUS DONUTS!!!

I feel emo about WORD on its anniversary. When it first opened I was living on Greenpoint Avenue. I remember walking in and asking Christine to please stock my book Hex Education. She was very polite about it! Six years is simultaneously not very long and a lifetime ago. I’m guessing it feels that way to WORD, too. Congratulations to my favorite bookstore on surviving and thriving as a neighborhood and an industry have changed around them, for better and worse. I am excited about what the next 6 years will bring.

Ditto the emo. All my love and respect to Christine, Stephanie, Jenn, Molly, Jami, and all the other brilliant women (and I guess there are men?) who made a place three subways away be undeniably My Local Independent Bookstore.

joining the emo train, because i just realized i have been at WORD for half its anniversaries — Four, Five, and now Six. which means it’s almost three years, which means this is the longest i’ve been at the same job since college. my time at WORD has been a turning point for me on so many levels, i can’t even really talk about it. so i will stop typing now and go get my shoes on and prepare to sell more books, gush at more authors, and hopefully not dissolve into a puddle of maudlin tears, yelling I LOVE YOU MAN and hugging every customer who comes in the door.

Thank you all for feeling such emotion (that’s what emo means, right?). My heart is full of rainbows today. FULL OF RAINBOWS. Xoxo

This Old Dag: (Very) Personal Jesus.

This Old Dag: (Very) Personal Jesus.:

I got to spend a very lovely Saturday at WORD last weekend. I hung out with the lovely staff there, ate some donuts and popcorn, watched some of It’s a Wonderful Life (which I’ve still never seen in its entirety), made a boatload of GIFs and met the wonderful book-lovers of Greenpoint.

This is the reason we still love bookstores. Because you can walk into a store, and the staff will tell you what you want to read before you’ve even asked, because you get to hang out with the authors who are your neighbors, and because we all need somewhere to go that feels like home but that’s out in the real world.

Oh, it’s also here that I finally met someone I’d never met before but recognized me from my GIFs. Hi Jamison!

You can see the rest of the photos on Flickr.

Maybe it’s just the holidays, but this post makes me feel EMOTIONS. Thank you Jesse!!! Hope to see more of you in the new year.

She rules. Look at Jenn! And this awesome interview, and equally awesome photo!

bookstalker:

I went to my first reading in New York (where I awkwardly accosted Jami Attenberg) at WORD about four years ago. These days, I find myself there multiple times a month, due to the event coordinating efforts of Jenn Northington. Both coordinator and bookseller, Jenn has cemented WORD’s reputation as a Brooklyn institution due to the consistently awesome quality of events. In her “free time,” Jenn co-founded Bookrageous, a Twitter hashtag that has morphed into a popular podcast and site. She also writes for Book Riot, and has quite the following on Twitter. I knew Jenn would have some great tales—but couldn’t have guessed that one of them would involve knife-throwing at a children’s event. More after the jump!

The writer Jacob Silverman wrote a piece for Slate today called ‘Against Enthusiasm.’ The essay mentions me by name in the very first sentence, and uses me throughout as a symbol of the ‘epidemic of niceness’ in the online universe. What is particularly hilarious to me is that I read…

Well, now we know for sure Daniel Handler has held books. But has he actually read them, as our t-shirt promises? It’s hard to say.

These fun moments make it all worthwhile.
